Doula, LLL Leader, CLC, Placenta Encapsulation Specialist
Hey, I’m Paige. I am a certified Birth Doula, La Leche League Leader, Lactation Consultant Student, and a student in the APPA Certified Placenta Arts Specialist Program. I am also in the process of earning a nursing degree on my journey to be a midwife.
My drive for the birth and lactation world grew out of seeing birth firsthand as a young tween with my mother. I was able to be part of her birthing experience with my siblings and watch her breastfeed them exclusively from their first year to 15 months. And this passion grew as I got to help friends and family with their journeys.
In my own journey, I have had 5 children and each has been a different experience as far as provider and location. I have birthed with Drs, and Midwives and in hospitals and birth centers. All had good things, but there were also challenges, especially in the hospital. And my lactation journey has been different with each child as well. Each child I nursed between 1 year to 2+ years. We’ve worked through oral ties, reflux, inability to latch, times of exclusively pumping, as well as low supply and oversupply, and a few bouts of mastitis(ouch).
So what does that mean for me as a Birth Doula? Well, I love being my client’s advocate and making sure that they don’t get pushed through a medical system that sees them as a number and not a person. I work to help my clients retain their autonomy and voice in the birthing space. I love also educating birthing parents on their options and their rights to their bodies and birth. The experience of my first two children being in a hospital and one in a military hospital gave me the fire to fight for my body’s rights and my baby’s rights. My last three births with midwives showed me how birth could look in a mother-centric view of birth. And watching many births has shown me the good and bad of our medical system and how to see through veiled threats and to know when medical help is actually needed for my clients. I have a passion for empowering not only the birthing person but also their partner. Giving them the tools and encouragement to know that birth is not a challenge to overcome but a beautiful transition into a new stage in life.
As a provider of Lactation support, I strive to help my clients get to the breastfeeding/chestfeeding, pumping, combo feeding journey they desire. Breastfeeding is a learned skill just like anything else and a baby didn’t know beforehand and if it’s a first-time baby neither did the lactating parent. So I enjoy educating parents about real expectations and what is reality versus what is portrayed in the media and society. Breastfeeding/Chestfeeding is amazing and beautiful but so is pumping, or combo feeding. Your journey with your baby is beautiful and amazing. And however that looks for you, I am here to help you and honor your choices. Happy healthy Parent and Baby are what is most important overall.
So a little more about me, I live in Winchester with my husband of 18 years and our 6 kids, 3 dogs, 1 cat, 2 birds, 1 bearded dragon, and many chickens. I am a homeschooling mom and part-time homesteader loosely of sorts. I love to read and be outside and surrounded by my family. So in my off time which as a mom when is that you will find me in the garden or with the chickens. Somewhere with a book or watching scary movies and gut-busting comedies with my husband and kids. I love birth and my goal I am working toward is to be a Midwife providing quality care to those who need it!
